The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has refused to answer questions from the Senate Committee investigating the allegations levelled against him by Senator Isa Misau.
Mr Idris, who appeared before the Senate Committee on Ethics on Wednesday at the National Assembly in Abuja, told the lawmakers that the matter was already in court.
“I will not make any oral comment or answer any question in respect of the allegations in view of the various civil and criminal cases pending in the law courts; more especially when the senator has already been arraigned in court in respect of these matters,” he said.
Despite honouring the invitation of the committee, he maintained that the Senate, according to its standing rules, cannot deliberate on a matter in court.
The police boss also asked the Upper House and the committee not to make any further reference to the case, saying any act of such would be against the Senate rules.
