Arewa youths suspend Quit notice

President Muham­madu Buhari’s threat to deal with groups and individuals intimidat­ing other Nigerians and pushing for the break-up of the country may have paid off as the Coalition of Arewa Youths has backed down and withdrawn its quit notice on Igbo living in the North.

Buhari had last Mon­day in a national broadcast upon his return from Lon­don, declared that his ad­ministration will deal deci­sively against those opposed to a united Nigeria. He as­serted that the unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable.

The President followed up his statement on Wednesday when he gave the Service Chiefs marching orders to crush secessionists and terrorists posing a threat to the country’s peaceful co-existence.

Yesterday in Abuja, the Arewa youths said that they have withdrawn the anti-Igbo order which would have come into force on October 1, 2017.

Citing the intervention of prominent Nigerians religious leaders, traditional rulers and the Northern Governors Fo­rum, the Coalition of North­ern Group’s (CNG), said that the order is no longer in force.
