IDP Contract scam: Buhari lied, Lawal was invited by Senate Committee -- Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central and Chairman of committee which investigated the procurement violation and IDP contract scam has described as lies Buhari's claim that SGF Lawal was not invited to defend himself.

Senator Sani described as lies, the contents of the letter sent to the Senate, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari, had in a letter which he sent to the Senate, on Tuesday, on the issue of procurement violation, and contract scam, leveled against his Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, David Babachir Lawal, pointed out that he could not act on the Senate report for the following reasons:

1. Only three out of the nine members of the Ad-hoc Committee led by Senator Sani, appended their signatures to the report, thus making it a minority report.

2. That Babachir Lawal and the company were not allowed to defend themselves before the Committee.

The letter stated that both men were cleared of any corrupt wrongdoing, after an investigation by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, based on a directive from the President.

Reacting, an APC Senator, Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central, described everything said by Buhari, as lies.

He stated that Babachir Lawal was invited before the Committee, and his Secretary duly acknowledged receipt of the invitation.

He further stated that the adverts were placed in three newspapers, where Babachir Lawal and others involved were invited, and promised to make available to the Clerk of the Senate, a copy of the letter from Babachir’s Secretary, acknowledging the receipt of the invitation.

Concluding, Senator Sani said: “Corruption in the Judiciary and others, is treated with insecticide, while corruption in the government, is treated with deodorant.”
